Week 8
Reflection
Lecture 4/12/2012
Today
we continue studying types of IS: TPS, MIS, DSS, ESS, and ES.
- TPS: is the backbone of an organization’s information system. It is used to enter, store data from business transaction.
- MIS: Management Information System. It
produces report data from TPS system.
Used by middle manager (Tactical manager). Example, supervisor or manager of department. MIS input (TPS) output (Report)MIS provides manager information operation of so that they can control, organize plan.
- DSS: Decision Support System. It provides flexible tools for analysis, making decision and analyses data from TPS system, making decision on unstructured/unprogrammed.
- ESS/ES: Executive Support System/ Expert System. It is used by the top manager of an organization, use for long term plan/ project.
Lecture 5/12/2012
Today we
learned about ISD (Information System Development)
ISD is a conceptual model use
in project management that describes the stages involves in an information
system development project.
ISDM (Information System Development
Methodology) contain model and tell you what “step” to take and how to develop
information system.
A Methodology is a collection of
- Procedure
- Tools
- Documentation aids
When you apply ISDM?
a.
problem
with existing system
b.
Desire
to introduce new system
c.
Change
in market/ external environment
d.
merger
or acquisition
Participant in System Development
Planning
TYPE OF ISD METHODOLOGIES
There are any different types of ISD methodology. They are
1)
Gane
and Sarsons (STRADIS
2)
Information
Engineering (IE
3)
Jackson System Development
4)
Prototyping/ iterative approach
5)
Structured
approach (SDLC
6)
Soft
Systems Methodology (SSM)
7)
ETHICS
8) Structured Systems
Analysis and Design (SSADM)
Stradis is the same as Jackson System Development and they are
related to each other.
STAGE IN STRADIS
IE: Information Engineering
Stage:
Prototyping
Stage
Structure Approach (SDLC)
•
The oldest and most known methodology used to coordinate
the efforts of information systems development is known as the “Waterfall”.
•
The model is based on a set of generic life cycle stages
to guide developers from an initiating through maintenance of the completed
systems.
•
is defined as the process (as a whole) of developing
system or software to meet certain requirements.
•
It covers many activities starts from understanding why
the system should be built, studying the project feasibility, analyzing
problems, choosing the system design and architecture, implementing and testing
it, up to delivering the system as product to the use
SDLC Stage
